Here at Macro Connect, vCIO (Virtual Chief Information Officer) is one of the most important roles. They serve as the bridge between our more tech-oriented TAMs (Technical Alignment Managers) and our clients!
While our TAMs focus on assessing the tech, our vCIOs focus on long term planning by making strategic recommendations to improve technology systems. They then meet with leadership teams to prioritize and budget for projects. Many of the organizations we serve see our vCIOs as a part of their own leadership team, seeing as they work together so closely.
So, what does a vCIO do throughout their day in the office at Macro Connect?
8:30 am: Arrive at the Office
Our vCIO kicks off the day by reviewing overnight alerts, emails, and support tickets, checking today’s calendar, and prioritizing the day’s initiatives.
9:00 am: Client Strategy Call with Manufacturing Client
Our vCIO hops on a quarterly business review call with a client to discuss a technical audit and any new vCIO recommendations. On the call, they’ll also go over budget planning for quarterly infrastructure upgrades and review their 3–5-year technology roadmap. The vCIO will also help the client address the business impact of unmet standards that were identified in last week’s technical assessment.
11:00 am: TAM Coordination
Now, the vCIO meets with a TAM to review technical assessments from three client sites visited this week. The vCIO’s job is to convert these technical findings into business language for upcoming client presentations/meetings.
12:00 pm: Sales L10 Meeting
This is a time for vCIOs to collaborate with the sales team on prospective client needs, provide client insights for proposals, and discuss how vCIO services can help differentiate Macro Connect in a competitive landscape.
1:00 pm: Client Documentation & Follow-up
Our vCIO starts the afternoon by updating technology summaries from the morning’s client meeting. Then, he sends along action items and next steps. Next, he’ll communicate with the Professional Services team to review and approve a project for a server upgrade.
vCIOs frequently and proactively check in with their clients: today, this vCIO will check in on three client relationships via email/calls. This proactive “unique touch” helps to maintain strategic partnerships.
3:00 pm: Strategic Planning Session - New Client Onboarding
Next, our vCIO will meet with a recently signed client’s leadership team to understand their business goals, conduct a discovery interview, and begin developing their initial technology strategy. He’ll focus on translating their business objectives into IT priorities and strategies.
4:15 pm: Weekly Status Meeting
Our weekly status meeting is an all-hands on meeting where our teams share updates on current projects, update cross-departmental efforts, and share roadmaps for the coming week.
vCIOs might share client wins from successful strategy implementations, discuss how vCIO recommendations are progressing with clients, and coordinate with the Service Desk team on any client relationship issues that need attention. This is a time for vCIOs to connect with colleagues across all teams.
5:00 pm – All Done!
Our vCIO heads home after a productive day, ready to enjoy the weekend.
